JUNEAU, Alaska (KTUU) – State lawmakers are preparing to breeze past the voter-approved 90-day limit to the annual legislative sessions as they try to find compromise on the many proposals to close a nearly $3 billion budget gap.
A yearly spending plan has not been finalized, and bills overhauling the state’s oil and gas tax system and implementing an income tax also continue to divide the Legislature.
The Democrat-led House sees each of those proposals as absolutely necessary, while the GOP-controlled Senate sees them as absolute nonstarters.
