Bill would crack down on organic imports
Newly introduced legislation seeks to improve government oversight of organic imports.
Bill sponsor Rep. John Faso, R-N.Y., called the legislation “Organic Farmer and Consumer Protection Act.” Co-sponsors are Reps. Rodney Davis, R-Ill., Michelle Lujan Grisham, D-N.M., Glenn Grothman, R-Wis., Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-Maine, and Darren Soto, D-Fla.
The legislation seeks to put in place a system to ensure full traceability of organic imports without “unduly hindering trade,” according to the bill.
The Organic Trade Association expressed support for the legislation in a news release and said the bill will:
