Black lawmakers press state officials to resist voter data request
The Congressional Black Caucus is urging state officials to ignore the Trump administration’s request for states’ voter registration data, citing voter suppression and privacy rights.
“We have little doubt that if complied with, these letters — issued unilaterally without any vote or public discussion — would lead to an unprecedented, nationwide voter suppression effort,” the Congressional Black Caucus wrote in a letter to the National Association of Secretaries of State.
“The fact that the Pence-Kobach commission is being led by individuals with a known and notorious history of voter suppression severely compounds our concerns,” the Friday letter continued.
