Born 77 years ago, the son of sharecroppers in Alabama, Rep. John Lewis has committed a lifetime to public service. He joined the civil rights movement as a teen and was nearly beaten to death during non-violent marches for equality. He organized the 1963 March on Washington, that featured Martin Luther King’s I Have A Dream Speech.
