Gov. John Bel Edwards floats narrow agenda for schools in upcoming session
Gov. John Bel Edwards released a slim K-12 education agenda Tuesday (March 28), reflecting the realities of an upcoming legislative session focused largely on the budget. He wants to end corporal punishment for students with disabilities, narrow eligibility for private school vouchers, help schools recovering from natural disasters and shrink the role of test scores in teacher evaluations.
“I strongly believe (these bills) will deliver the kinds of changes that will bolster academic achievement in our state,” Edwards said in a statement. Moreover, “bipartisan support for these measures already exists.”
