How Donald Trump and Scott Garrett are dividing Republicans
WASHINGTON — Conservative organizations and business groups, normally allies in supporting Republicans, have taken up opposite sides on President Donald Trump’s nomination of former New Jersey Rep. Scott Garrett to lead the Export-Import Bank.
In advance of Wednesday’s confirmation hearing before the Senate Banking Committee, several business trade groups have called on Trump to withdraw Garrett’s nomination.
Aligned against them are conservative organizations such as Club for Growth and Heritage Action, who have previously cheered efforts by Garrett and like-minded Republican lawmakers to get rid of the bank.
