Local GOP political ad ‘racially divisive,’ U.S. rep. says
SOMERVILLE — U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12th) released a statement Thursday evening calling several Somerset County GOP political ads “racially divisive” as the county Republican party stands by the ads, saying they only serve to point out policy differences.
The campaign literature targets Shanel Robinson, a Franklin Township councilwoman running for freeholder, along with fellow Democrat candidates Steve Peter and Alex Avellan, claiming putting them “in charge … puts Somerset County’s special quality of life at risk.” Another states Robinson “will bring her style of government to Somerset County.”
Coleman said the fliers demean Robinson’s character and abilities.
