Norton to Introduce Bill to Protect Salvadorian TPS Recipients Following Trump Administration Decision to End Protected Status

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that this week she will introduce a bill to protect from deportation Salvadorians who currently have Temporary Protected Status (TPS) after the Trump administration today terminated TPS for El Salvador.  Of the 200,000 Salvadorians with TPS living in the U.S., nearly 30,000 live in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region, the largest concentration of Salvadorians in the nation.  Norton’s bill would change the status of Salvadorian TPS holders to lawful permanent resident and allow them to apply for naturalization (citizenship) within five years.  She is also a …
