Overnight Defense: Military won’t lift transgender ban until Trump sends directions | House passes national security spending | Russian sanctions bill heads to Trump
THE TOPLINE: There was more fallout from President Trump’s move to ban transgender people in the military on Thursday.
The highest-ranking military officer in the country insisted that the Pentagon’s transgender policy won’t actively change until the White House sends specific directions to do so.
“There will be no modifications to the current policy until the president’s direction has been received by the secretary of defense and the secretary has issued implementation guidance,” Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford wrote in a letter.
