President Donald Trump fulfilled his promise to allow religious organizations more freedom of political speech when he recently signed his executive order, called “Promoting Free Speech and Religious Liberty.”
During his campaign, Trump announced he would undo the Johnson Amendment, which bans tax-exempt organizations from political speech and activities. By signing the executive order, he loosened the IRS enforcement of the ban, but did not dismantle the Johnson Amendment entirely, which only Congress has the power to do.
