St. Thomas residents with ties to Carteret want to help rebuild island
MOREHEAD CITY — Former county residents who now live on St. Thomas say they want to help rebuild their community and provide relief to its residents, many who lost everything during Hurricane Irma.
The Category 5 storm devastated the island on Sept. 6, before making its way through the Caribbean and Florida.
Keely Wojtylak, a native of Morehead City, and her two sons, Matt, 16, and Korey, 10, were evacuated from the island Sept. 5, but had to leave behind her husband, Brad, a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agent stationed on St. Thomas.
