Trump’s move to end DACA meets with local dissent
President Donald Trump announced earlier this week that his administration would end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, known as DACA, which allows immigrants who entered the country as minors to receive deferred action against deportation and allows them work eligibility.
U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security explaining that DACA was not authorized and was an unconstitutional exercise of discretion by the executive branch. Former President Barack Obama implemented the program by executive order in 2012.
